Hamburg-Germany
Host: Friederike Schulz
Dear friends from Salon.
I would like to invite you to come and celebrate the first Salon in Germany.
The exhibition will be located in a beautiful museum near the city centre, named Hamburg Museum. Everything is organized and consolidated, as we Germans say: "under one umbrella". The hotel is less than five minutes walking distance. And the city‘s famous harbour is nearby.
This major landmark will provide Salon‘s theme, namely „Hamburg and the Harbour“.
The cranes, the containers, the freighters and the jetties are all typical characteristics of the central area around the River Elbe, which runs right through the town. The Alster Lake and its tributaries and the River Elbe give the impression that Hamburg is governed by water. It will amaze you to learn that our town has more bridges than Venice, Amsterdam, and London altogether. The ancient tradition of Merchant Guilds is a feature of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The Hamburg Museum as well as many of the merchant houses are designed in brick architecture, another typical characteristic of the townscape.
The exhibition will take place from 22nd - 25th March, a period during which the city isn’t hosting other major fairs or exhibitions. It is also towards the end of the off-season, so that there will be fewer tourists and we can count on economical accommodation. I am really looking forward and hoping to see you all in Hamburg in 2012 and confidently with you, some new faces from Germany. Together we will keep the decorative painting network flowing.
My best wishes to all of you.
